Doctor Who: An Unearthly Child: First Draft Parody Script

It's always more difficult to parody something I like but I wanted to have an affectionate look at the Dr Who series. This is a piece of television and sci fi history and I recommend watching classic Who if you haven't before.

Opens with a policeman walking through the London streets as he wanders where this great new theme tune is coming from.

Policeman Actor
Ooh I’m getting a mysterious intro this show could make me big.

Tardis
Actually this is my mysterious into.

Policeman Actor
Oh. Well I’ll still remember this moment with fondness.

Cut to Susan’s school.

Barbara
I’m worried about Susan she appears intelligent.

Ian
She might still meet a man who loves her despite that.

Barbara
I don’t mean that I’m worried about her home conditions. She live in a junk yard.

Ian
We could try social services?

Barbara
In the 60s? They’re not what they will be. I think we should stalk her.

Ian
Ok nothing morally wrong with that I guess… We could talk to her?

Barbara
Oh but I want to do some stalking.

Ian
Well if we notice one more strange thing about her…

Barbara
She’s listening to some stange new age music.

Ian
That will do.

Cut to the junkyard which is still being patrolled by a police man. Street policing isn’t what it used to be.

Doctor
Move along nothing to see here.

Barbara
Ok Officer… wait a minute you’re not a policeman.

Ian
You’ve got Susan locked up in a police box.

Barbara
How ironic.

Susan
What’s going on?

Ian
What? It’s bigger on the inside.

Doctor
Oh please say something original.

Susan
But grand father no one has ever said that before.

Doctor
My Dear child, you’re not thinking fourth dimensionally.

Barbara
What is this?

Susan
I name it Tardis. Remember I get the credit for that name Tardis. Tardis. Tardis.

Ian
Lets get out of here, this can’t be possible. Wait this impossible door has us locked in.

Doctor
Hahahaha

Barbara
Wow that’s a really sinister laugh. You can’t be the shows hero surely?

Doctor
Well I’m going to keep you prisoner but it’s for the good of your world. Bad things could happen with the very idea of a Tardis.

Ian
Haven’t you read any of our science fiction? We have lots of crazy ideas that doesn’t mean we’ll invent.

Doctor
Enough! I need some adventure not constant debate. I’m taking you to a far away place, in time and space.

Ian
But you’ll be able to bring us back here?

Doctor
Ha! I’m not even sure where here is. I’m rather new at this. Now where’s the indicators?

Walking in The Rain

Taking a long walk in the rain
Is it just insane?
What can I hope to gain?
In this long soaking time

Getting drenched
pummeled
By droplets and wind
Cold
I'm surely too old to find fun in this
Whether that's wrong or whether it's right
I shouldn't burden myself with things I can not change

Change
The changing direction of the wind
Unseen but with consequences
Change may be hard but necessary
and  can be fun
Making the sails stand proud
The waves to surf
The kites dance

Then a car flashes pass
Causing extra drenching
Like I should really notice
But I feel a flash of anger
A flash at his flash
The only thing to do is let it go
As I should let go and forgive all the others
The wind
The rain
They are created have a reason
Adapting with changing seasons
Like life
There's a peace that can be found in tumult
When pummeled with rain
Blown this way, then that
I can still take time and listen

Creation

Written age 16

Starts as nothing
Comes from something
Every twist and curl
Every flea and pearl
Total destruction is never complete
It always leaves pieces
Large and petite
Though counter productive
Who made the produce?

24 hours
From 1 to 12 then back to 1
How and where had it all begun
Did 10 come from 9?
The 12 from 11?
But what about 1 did it come from the 12?
Or had it always there?
 But what started its ticking?

Confusion, chaos, turboilgus mess
Into order as such
Working alongside one another
For mutual existence
Chance?
Fate?
Is it a possibility?

Everything new whilst also old
Creation occurring in every moment
Whilst parts of all are antiquated
How can this be segregated
As this was then
But not quite thus
How can one say it isn’t much?

Time

Written age 14

The time is just a figure
To explain when you are
Whether wrong or whether right
It is the worlds insight
Into the markers that can not be placed

Coping With Stress

Some help with handling the stressful times in life.

How chaotic the world can be, with surprises and disruptions to plans. Handling these ups and downs in life can have a lasting effect on our well being. Stress can exaggerate ailments and make our body more susceptible to falling ill. It can also affect our mood, causing anxiety and worsen depression. See my piece on depression at
If you regularly get stressed you can try developing some habits which will calm your the mind and help to organise your day in a positive way.

Wake up to music

Having a radio or CD alarm creates a gentler way to wake up than a beeping noise. Also make sure you get plenty of sleep to start with.

Plan your music on the commute to work

Whether on an Ipod or on the car stereo having a good selection of tunes can help you to get in the right mood for the day. Although the radio can be helpful for this its also unpredictable and can have music or talking which can be grating rather than relaxing.

Memorise some encouraging words each week

Writing down some encouraging or inspiring words on a small piece of card means that they are available to read throughout the day. These can be from people living or historical,a passage from a book, or quoting a favourite song or film.

Prioritize your day

If there are some important things you want to get done in a day make a list and don't procrastinate. Putting off tasks can be more stressful in the long run and means they may be on your mind when your taking time to relax. Ensure you do not over fill your schedule.

Just say NO!

We often feel a need to please everyone but don't have a duty to do so. Over commitment leads to stress and rushing. You can apply this to the work place as well as personal life. Bosses tend to give you more and more work without thinking. Point out to them if it's too much to do reminding them that you need time to do a job properly.

Contact at least one or two friends a day

t doesn't have to be a long conversation. Contacting people you care about on line, by phone or in person, is positive experience. It helps to feel part of community with those around you as well as keeping in touch with friends far away. We naturally have a need for relationship, it is good to be in contact with people close to you as well as colleagues.
